A Word for the Weary Warrior
Dear Weary Warrior,
I see you. I watch you bite your tongue when you’re being verbally attacked. I’ve seen you choose grace and mercy when my first reaction would be to come out swinging. I wonder how you continue to be the light, day in and day out, in this crazy world. Where do you find the courage to continue fighting the good fight?
Like me, do you go to bed wondering…
Will my voice be heard among the chaos and confusion?
Does my small contribution make a difference?
This morning I found myself discouraged, exhausted at the thought of facing another day. It’s no coincidence that I found this little nugget of truth in my daily reading. God is speaking to Jeremiah in regards to the people of Judah.
“Run up and down every street in Jerusalem,” says the Lord. “Look high and low; search throughout the city! If you can find even one just and honest person, I will not destroy the city.” Jeremiah 5:1
Unfortunately, not one person was found. Time and time again in scripture, God is looking for JUST ONE!
“I looked for someone who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” Ezekiel 22:30
“God looks down from heaven on the entire human race; He looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God.” Psalm 53:2
Our faith and prayers make a difference! As believers, we can stand in the gap for the broken and lost. We can pray for those who don’t believe or whose faith is on the brink and God will hear our prayers.
Job stood in the gap for his children by offering burnt offerings to God on their behalf.
Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts”. This was Job’s regular custom. Job 1:5
It was the faith of friends that healed a man of paralysis in Luke 5. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the man, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.” Luke 5:20
In Exodus 32, God spared the people of Israel because Moses boldly stood in the gap and plead for God to have mercy on them. One man saved an entire nation!
You matter, your prayers matter. Please don’t give up, we need you. The world needs you now more than ever!
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
