Finding Hope and Joy this Christmas
Have you ever skipped to the back of a book or movie to get a glimpse of the outcome because the inner turmoil was too much to bear? (I am guilty)
Recently, while watching E.T. with my youngest, I had to give him some encouragement. The scene was becoming too much for my son and from his perspective, there didn’t seem to be much hope! Luckily, I knew the end of the story and I was able to assure him that in the end, all would be well.
Somehow, knowing that the good guys win, makes the tough scenes more tolerable.
Today, in my Advent reading, I was reminded that we know how The Story ends. God promises to rescue His people, “Do not be afraid – I will save you. I have called you by name – you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1
Christ comes back and we are rescued from the sin and destruction of this world.
We can persevere, knowing that this life is only temporary. Though our current circumstances are hard, our Savior is coming, and our final destination is in eternity with our Creator.
None of this would be possible without the special arrival of a sweet baby boy. More than two thousand years ago, God sent His son to be born in a manger, bringing with Him hope and salvation for all.
“For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over His kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.” Isaiah 9:6-7
The birth of Jesus was the beginning of the Greatest Story ever told, ending with His death on a cross, trading His life for ours. Atonement for OUR sins.
Can you imagine life without the assurance of salvation through Christ? How hopeless would it be, to believe that the darkness and corruption of this world is all there is to life?
We know how the Story ends! Light overcomes darkness, God wins…we win!!
This Christmas season, share the Joy of Salvation with others. As we celebrate the beginning of Jesus’ life, tell everyone how the Story ends and invite them into a life everlasting!
